The dvds are in good shape & the one I watched does play well.

I love this season

The actors in this show save it from being boring. The story lines are a bit simplistic but the acting makes it worth watching. Not sure why this is not free to prime members. Having watched season one, debating about continuing.

While there is no doubt this is THE show I would have loved to see in Blu-ray, it is now a part of my collection in DVD. I am baffled as to why they delayed the Blu-ray release of a program that aired in HD with high quality sound and all. That is such an obvious play to get those people that want the show so bad they will wind up buying both because they can't wait, that it makes me sick. It was my plan to simply hold off and wait for the Blu-ray release, however a well meaning friend has now given me this set of DVDs which now will suffice for me.Now about the show. I have long been a fan of science fiction though not so much of horror. I find this show to have the right mix for me. It isn't so off the hook gory that it makes me want to change the channel while still capturing the whimsy of a good science fiction/fantasy show. Amanda Tapping shines in this show. It is an actual show where she is allowed to act more than she has been in the past and she carries it off well. The rest of the cast is great too, a perfect mix.So why four stars? Sounds like I feel the show is a five star show. It is a five star show. I am taking one star off for the marketing ploy of not releasing the Blu-ray version at the same time as hey did this one.

If you have not watched it, you are in for a treat, fun, exciting, and at time quite dramatic, but always uplifting. This is a great show to watch in the morning to start your day, while having breakfast, will leave you in a good mood to start your day. If you are a fan of the Star Gate series, this is glorious transformation for Amanda Tapping, where she is still brilliant, strong, tough, yet compassionate, impassioned about her work, but in this series, I think you see more of the sexiness you always knew was their. Also fun, some of her Star Gate co-stars make some surprise appearances, as different characters, some as creatures. Great Series, my only complaint is that it ended. Amanda, if your listening please bring it back, or maybe do a Helen Magnus spin off, prequel or Tomb Raider or something. Love the show and the character.

Amazing scifi series with every myth legend and creature our generation grew up reading and hearing about mermaids and wearwolves and witches and even histories most interesting people Nicola Tesla jack the ripper the Invisable man and woman lol just to name a few! And lots of extras on between! There's 1800's history plus present day conspiracies! I love it 💕

This is truly an awesome show and a must see for any fan the genre or fans of the actors from Star Gate SG1, Amanda Tapping is brilliant in this as well and many other SG1 actors make cameo appearances throughout seasons 1 and 2. I have seen other reviews that call this a monster of the week show but I must at least partially disagree with that, while it is true that most episodes introduce a new "monster" the show also has a more than subtle understory that starts developing fairly fast after the first couple episodes and then comes and goes to varying degrees. All in all I can't say much more without adding spoilers, I will add for those who are already fans of the show that the extra content is good as well, especially if you have never seen the original sanctuary web series as it is included on disc 4.

Cette série est vraiment vraiment sensationnelle. L'histoire est géniale, les effets visuels excellent (surtout quand on sait que s'est tourné sur fond vert, on retrouve Amanda Tapping et pleins d'autres acteurs de Stargate (tel que le Major Lorne au début et Harling notre Athosien), mais bon je ne suis pas là pour parler de la qualité de la série mais de l'intégrale de la saison 1^^J'ai mit 3 semaines à le recevoir car il n'était pas en stock quand je l'ai commandé mais j'étais prévenue donc aucun problème avec la livraison comme d'habitude (je l'ai reçu à la date indiqué). Emballage toujours aussi bon et état de l'article impeccable (Avec Amazon il ne faut pas avoir peur de commander)Le coffret se présente sous la forme d'une boite de DVD, avec les 4 DVD dans la même boite (mon coffret ne ressemble pas à celui qu'à posté un client avec les boitiers slim), 2 DVD sur chaque face mit en décalé l'un sur l'autre (voir la photo que je rajoute à la description avec la boite ouverte). Ce système est très peu pratique car pour prendre un DVD du dessous il faut enlever celui du dessus et les DVD sont très solidement accroché j'ai toujours peur de le casser en le prenant (mais ceci ne mérite pas une étoile en moins, ce n'est qu'un problème mineur.Concernant les DVD, ils sont jolie en apparence, les menus sont très sympa, beaucoup de bonus et avec les commentaires d'épisodes sous titré français ce qui est rare (on n'a pas vu çà dans Stargate). C'est vraiment un plus. De plus très bien fait car lors des épisodes à commentaire avec plusieurs commentateur (comme par exemple pour le premier commentaire, Amanda Tapping, Martin Wood et un autre) chaque personne à une couleur différente de sous titrage du coup très pratique pour suivre).Je ne peux que vous recommander ce coffret saison 1, vous n'allez pas le regretter, commandez le!!

I was a huge fan of Stargate SG-1 (the first 6 Seasons), and when Amanda Tapping started filming the episodes of Sanctuary I must admit I wasn't too excited about it. The idea of watching a show that uses mostly green screens and computer graphics, didn't appeal to me at all. I much prefer the proper sets like on Stargate and Star Trek for example. Therefore, I didn't give Sanctuary a chance at all; only watching about 10 mins of the pilot episode aired on Sky. BUT....I realise now what a HUGE mistake it was to give up so early on this show!My wife and I decided to give it another chance and purchase this box set and watch the whole first season of Santuary all in one go (we were both feeling ill so could afford to stay in all day :)), and it was SUPERB! No, I mean it really was SUPERB! The acting is excellent, the characters (all of them) are likable and real, the effects are simply outstanding and to be perfectly honest you get so use to the backdrops that they become real and 'second nature', and the stories (the individual ones AND the overall arc) have excellent twists to them which really show off the uniqueness of Sanctuary compared to other similar format TV shows.If you are a fan of any of the actors in this show or like the fantasy/monster/science fiction genre, or love to watch great true-to-life-themed stories, then buy this! You will NOT be disappointed. Don't do what I did and write it off without seeing a few episodes, because once you see them, you will be hooked!

Ich seh mir Sanctuary gerade einmal in der Woche, Folge für Folge auf ATV (Österreich) an. Da ich jetzt schon mehr als die Hälfte der ersten Staffel gesehen habe, kann ich mir meiner Meinung nach schon ein gutes Bild über die Serie machen. Sanctuary hat es mir angetan... =) Ich freue mich jede Woche auf einen neue Folge. Die Episoden sind spannend und haben immer eine tolle Story. Natürlich muss man sich auch darauf einlassen und muss dieses Genre mögen. Die Schauspieler leisten tolle Arbeit und wirken überzeugend. Und natürlich sind die Effekte nicht die Besten. Klar, ist ja fürs Fernsehen und nicht fürs Kino.Ich werd mir die DVD-Box wenn sie endlich erscheint (erst im August :-() aufjedenfall holen, denn die Serie ist wirklich top!PS: Neue Folgen sind auch schon sicher: Erstens ist in Amerika die 2. Staffel schon gelaufen, kommt also hoffentlich dann bald auch zu uns, und zweitens wurde die Serie schon für eine 3. Staffel verlängert.UPDATE:Jetzt wo ich die DVD-Box endlich zuhause habe, kann ich dazu auch mehr sagen. Die DVD-Box wurde zum Glück, wie in Amerika, als Digipack gestaltet. Leider muss ich trotzdem sagen, dass der Schuber selbst nicht sehr stabil wirkt. Trotzdem ein halbwegs schönes DVD-Set.Das Bild und der Ton sind sehr klar und ich konnte nichts störendes feststellen. Bei der ersten Staffel wurde nicht an Extras gespart und das finde ich persönlich echt super. Was ich besonders toll finde, ist dass es die ursprünglichen 8 Webepisoden auf die DVD geschafft haben. Ich habe sie mir gestern angesehen und finde sie sehr aufschlussreich. Im Großen und Ganzen muss man sie nicht anschauen, denn die Storyline der Webserie wird in der ersten Staffel in den ersten drei Folgen zusammengefasst. Doch ein paar kleine Unterschiede gibt es doch. Kleine zusätzliche Szenen, die in der ersten Staffel nicht mehr verwendet wurden, kann man in der Webserie bewundern.Gut finde ich auch, dass der Ton in beiden Sprachen (Deutsch und Englisch) als 5.1 Ton vorliegt.

I'll admit that I only bought this DVD set based on a cheap price and hearsay - that is, I'd heard it was pretty good and I knew it had a lot of producers and writers from shows I already loved. That said? I don't regret it one bit. I watched the show shortly after receiving a prompt delivery, and I fell immediately in love with it. The stories are gripping, the characters are wonderful and compelling, and while the CGI is occasionally a bit noticeable, the affects and visuals overall were stunning.The DVD set itself is of amazing quality - the video and sound quality are top of the line, and the set up is easy and smooth, if a little simplistic. The special features are nothing spectacular, but they are interesting enough, and are more than enough considering the price and the quality of the rest.Overall? I definitely recommend this set to any Science Fiction or Fantasy fan - it's well worth a look.
