killing rage: Ending Racism (Owl Book)

I am hooked
This was my first introduction to bell hooks and I enjoyed it very much. I was trying to read about the cycle I have heard black pundits talk about that they go through, rage, despair and love. So I read the classic Black Rage, which was interesting on one level, but devoid of any peer review and I felt the coauthors went off the rails in places, which made it hard to trust them in other areas. Next I read Black Fatigue, which was wonderful and well documented. I thought bell's book would be about love--killing rage. No she meant a KILLING RAGE. Lol. Still her honesty won me over along with her observations and willingness to openly challenge other thinkers. The last chapter on the beloved community was especially enlightening to me. And I added Bishop Curry's book Love is the Way to finish out the cycle.

Great political argument
This book has much insight as to why Black people continue to have problems moving forward in life. This also points out the blatant denial whit America still has for racial debates. White people need to admit to the shame of America that is has put a generational wound on black America that has much needed healing.

Classic Hooks
For readers of Hooks' past books this one further expounds upon her theories regarding racism and sexism. "Killing Rage" is a frank and open discussion of racism. Highly recommended.

So informative
This book helped me understand my own feelings and experiences, while also understanding where and why. It’s a great read for people who are struggling with todays social and political climate.

Life changing
hooks commitment to liberation and self determination through the decolonisation of the mind is eloquently and succinctly expressed. Her love of life is evident throughout her writing but it is her unflinching approach to exposing and tackling issues that remain at the centre of the perpetuation of white supremacy, that singles her out as one of the world’s foremost intellectuals. Although, no longer with us her works remain pertinent and of great importance for those who aspire to live in a world that is based on anti-racism, the understanding and promotion of difference, and of love.
