Read it in a few days. Very interesting and entertaining read
It was so interesting to read her experience. I was contemplating if I got the right diagnosis (cyclothymia) so reading this helped me discover I don’t have this disorder and need a second opinion. Also Not sure if it was intentional but I was laughing out loud often reading parts of the book because of how the author told her stories (mostly about her manic stories) so I had an enjoyable time reading it from beginning to end even if that wasn’t the author’s intent. I felt I was right there with her on her ups and downs and embarrassing moments. I learned a lot and feel more understanding for those suffering with this.

10/10 recommend
This book was phenomenal. I have bipolar disorder and it helped me learn to have more compassion with myself, and to take better care of myself. I definitely recommend this to anyone with bipolar, who has a loved one with bipolar, healthcare/MH professionals, and anyone else who is interested in learning about the disorder.

Good info and insights into Bipolar
This story was well written, without the medical jargon that often bogs down stories like this. Hammond very graphically describes her ascent into hell and back. The victims of a mental disorder are not just the patient. The family also suffers. This is clearly brought out in this book. Hammond shares the impact and toll her illness took on her family. The book reads easily and keeps the reader involved. We somehow end up feeling as if we have a direct hand in keeping her safe during her episodes. The authors main purpose for telling her story is to spread the word that mental illness can happen to anyone and if it happens to you, it doesn't make you any less of a person - a good book and well worth your time.

Interesting but someone boring
Interesting read but at the same time it was boring. By the end I just wanted it to be over.

Personal victory
I praise the author on unwavering determination to be healthy and in control of her life. My daughter and my family will glean from this book courage and wisdom you showed that we need to steer away from the bipolar teritory. Thanks.

she’s just like me…
I learned many things about myself. I too have bipolar, ptsd, ocd, complex anxiety and more on the depression side.

Been there
I could really relate to this book. Merryl Hammond is brave yet incredibly inspiring to share her story. I was diagnosed with Bipolar 2 at the age of 30 (I am 60 now), due to a manic episode. I know (being a counselor and counselor educator for many years) that Bipolar 1 is MUCH more serious and debilitating. Merryl thanks for sharing your journey. Just like depression or anxiety people who don't suffer with mental illness do not really understand. Though my illness is far less debilitating than Dr. Hammond's, it can be really rough, including several times with suicidal ideation, with a plan. I am glad that you are still able to be productive and have a caring family (as I do).Anyone who has signs or symptoms of bipolar (including severe insomnia) don't hesitate to get help, whether is be with a good counselor, psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner. I would also recommend Kay Redfield Jamison's book "An Unquiet Mind.

An engaging and insightful read!
“Mad Like Me” is a captivating narrative on the importance of understanding our mental health, acknowledging when something needs to be done and understanding that the road to recovery can be long and painful. Dr Hammond’s story is told with stunning sincerity that serves to further convey her apparent strength in navigating bipolar disorder. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the topic of mental health, has a friend or family member currently suffering from depression or bipolar disorder, or anyone who simply wants to read an enjoyable and informative book on a topic that touches a great many people.

Bipolar disorder tracked, tamed and reported by a skilled survivor!
‘Mad Like Me’ is the wonderful story of a loving family coping with bipolar disorder, for only loads of love could have kept the Hammond-Collins clan of 7 bonded through so much turmoil. Hammond openly shares their ups and downs, giving a clear understanding of how her disorder affected everyone around her. Colorfully detailed, it shows the importance of caring family and friends while riding this roller coaster. A must read and easy reference guide to brain well-being.
