A fascinating read - really explaining how jewellery designers think and develop their ideas.
Each of the people studied in this book writes clearly about what they are trying to do - some quite poetically, others very matter of fact. They all approach their work in very different ways but, as Cherry says, it’s through the materials and how they use them that they develop their ideas. I feel I have a better understanding of this branch of art now - and a new appreciation that all jewellery isn’t what you buy on the high street.

Didn't like it!The choice of the designs shown are very weak!I guess we are living in a world that amazing creativity is diminishing because is not fomented nor appreciated by the ones that hold the power of selection!I really despise this kind for they are not contributing for the world to be a beautiful place but rather uglier. And they are giving credit to the ones that do not have any creativity.

An after exhibition catalogue
This book didn't match my expectations. I expected a practical guide for creating jewellery using methods that are more sophisticated than the beginner's saw and solder variety . It is in fact a collection of artists' statements with descriptions of their working methods. It is not a practical guide. It is more like a catalogue that you can buy after an art exhibition. It is useful to read about other jewellers' ideas about creating work but the designs which were once cutting edge are now dated. I got my book from one of those great companies allied to Amazon that give you a good bargain. I would have sent it back if I had paid full price.
