Punch-Drunk Love
My favorite film of all time. This movie is outstanding. It’s shot beautifully from the get-go, Adam Sandler’s excellent, and my Paul Thomas Anderson movie by far. Glad to have the blu ray and criterion

Recommended for all misfits
The older I get (I'm 40) and the more I experience of life's highs and lows (more low than high lately), the more I gravitate to these type of quirky, offbeat, indie "dramedies". The stories and characters just feel more real, human, and relateable than most Hollywood stuff. Right up my alley. Its like they opened up a new world to me and made me realize its ok to just be myself, not some "normal", soulless, successful, macho, "alpha male" cliche. Highly flawed but basically good hearted people just trying to do their best, in their own messed up way, to make sense of and survive this Type A, capitalist, Trump-loving society and scary world of "normal" people and "grown-ups" ::shudder::. Sign me up. My kind of people.I think this was the first such movie I watched, back in 2003 or so, shortly after it came out on video. Related to Barry so much. I was like "wow, I didn't realize film characters could be this painfully human and realistic" lol Anyway, so if anyone out there (of all ages) has ever felt different from the herd, ever felt lost, alienated, or like they don't belong in this world, I'd definitely recommend this movie to you, my fellow misfit and kindred spirit :) If you agree with my review at all, you can mostly find me these days at twitter dot com/ShyLivesMatter Peace :)

Adam Sandler is not a one-note joke in this movie
Do not listen to the negative reviews by people who can't grasp humor Beyond the typical Adam Sandler fart joke. I loved Happy Gilmore as much as the next man, but this shows that he is not a one-note joke. He plays a guy suffering from a pretty severe emotional disorder. The Frantic music played at the beginning of the movie is supposed to give you an idea what it's like inside of his character's mind and if you are smart enough to make it past the first 30 minutes or so you'll notice that it changes depending on his mood. This is not base humor and and if that's what you're looking for then this will not satisfy your needs. If you want a good movie that does have humerus elements then you'll like this. It's a a lot more dramatic than the normal Adam Sandler stick.

Hate It or Love It -- I Hated It Then Loved It
When I first saw this movie, I hated it. I didn't know what the hell was going on. The main character was uncomfortable to watch because I didn't get what his problem was. Things just happened. But then I revisited it. And it was different. It became a beautiful and odd tale of a depressed man with repressed anger who meets the love of his life and must fight for her protection when a phone sex worker he calls begins threatening him with physical violence if he doesn't give up all his cash. It's a bizarre movie that can and will definitely put people off, I can definitely say that. But for someone who's willing to sit down and watch a cinema genius' first attempt at a love story, with very humorous moments, artsy transitions and a great soundtrack, as well as a really good performance by Adam Sandler, this is worth a look.

I guess that's that, mattress man.
Adam Sandler? Yeah, Adam Sandler. I noticed a fair bit of the reviews of this film were quite put off by this atypical performance. I guess if he's not speaking gibberish, or chasing imaginary penguins, it's crap, right? I have to admit, I too thought his casting was an odd choice, then I saw the film; and all doubts disappeared. At times quirky and light hearted, at times awkward, and at times reminiscent of old Hollywood romance films. Interspersed with these incredible hallucinatory pieces by artist Jeremy Blake. For me, along with Funny People, this is Adam Sandler's best performance, and possibly my favorite Paul Thomas Anderson film.

More PTA in 4K please!
Great to see more PTA in 4K! An idiosyncratic love story starring Adam Sandler, Emily Watson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Luis Guzman. The 4K transfer didn't blow me away but it's nice to have both the Blu-ray and 4K disc

Adam Sandler and PTA's shining achievement
This is easily Adam Sandler's best role and Paul Thomas Anderson's best film to date. Adam Sandler feels much more human in this film and you begin to sympathize with his character. Everything from the chemistry between Sandler and Emily Watson's characters to the almost dreamlike cinematography, just works wonders. And in blu-ray, the movie looks sharper and all the details in Jon Brion's lovely score can be easily heard. If you're also a fan of symbolism in film (don't worry it doesn't use it as a crutch), then I would highly recommend this movie to you.
