Another Delightful Entry in the Series
The Sixth Doctor is my three-year-old's favorite (seriously!) and this one, part of a truly wonderful series, does not disappoint. The story is fun and simple to follow, and the illustrations are on-brand (and really quite good). Most importantly (and this is something some of the books in this series do better than others), it captures the voice of the doctor in a way that is both comically over-the-top and totally believable. As I felt while reading Dr. Fourth in regard to Tom Baker, I could hear Colin Baker's voice very easily in my head here. It made the story that much more fun.It was a birthday gift for my son, and we've re-read it a number of times. The concern I've had with all these books is that the binding is weak (our copy of Dr. Fourth has been losing pages) and vulnerable to ripping and losing pages. We've tried to be careful about that, but it's hard to teach little ones to be as gentle as is necessary. I've already noticed a bit of wearing on this one, so be warned.

An Appearance by the Rani
It is fun to see the Sixth Doctor and Peri in this book; however, the real pleasure for me is the appearance of the Rani as the baddie. I’ve always hoped that she would make an appearance in the new series of Doctor Who but it’s nice to see that there are some other people out there who haven’t forgotten her. It makes this story a bit more special.

A twisted time for the Doctor
After encountering a time distortion Dr. Sixth and Peri set out to investigate and encounter on old enemy. The Mr. Men version of the Sixth Doctor is excellent and really captures the characteristics of that incarnation of the Time Lord. However, adopting the Sixth Doctor’s predisposition to use overly long words for the sake of it (something Peri continually mocks in this story) might be a bit much for the book’s youngest age groups. The Rani is a tad bland by comparison and there isn’t a great deal of resemblance to her onscreen counterpart. But the Hargreaves physical representation of Peri really has the essence of her. The portrayal concentrates more on her sarcastic attitude towards the Doctorr rather than her more whiney side. Her little comments upon her Doctor’s frustrating eccentricities are a lot of fun.The depiction of the Time Continuum is also highly amusing.I also wonder whether the Blue Planet they visit might be where the blue aliens come from that are seen in the Twelth Doctor’s last series???Personally, this has been one of my favourites of this highly entertaining crossover series.
