Great Book
It is a great resource to have if you are in the medicine field and have patients that use "Hawaiian Medicine". It breaks down the plants by scientific name, common names and pharmaceutical name. It list the parts of the plants used in medicine, cautions and contraindications, dosage, western functions reported and chinese energetic functions. It really is a great book to have! There is no reason to tell a patient that they have to stop using their traditional healing methods because you have no idea what they are taking. This book really compiles almost all of the plants that were used and are still being used today.

Amazing feat of work!
I am a nurse, and have also studied natural medicine subjects for 25 years, especially herbs, while in many other countries. i've been looking for a comprehensive Hawaiian "Herbal" I am soo impressed It correlates with the use of the same plants in other countries, And Chinese medicine! . it has a 16 page bibliography! Large print & user friendly It is only the first volume, but so useable. It looks like he hopes to report on over 200 more herbs in the future. There is a terms list and a good index. Wish it had color photos.. (it has small black & white,) but that would add to the price. Amazing book & good value!

Great Multi-Cultural Review
With an emphasis on Hawai'ian experience this concise yet thorough treatment of the natural medicines of Hawai'i is a welcome addition to my library of medicinal herbs. Written in a style familiar to those who know something about the Hawai'ian culture, the volume condenses plant physiology, Hawai'ian experience, and multi-cultural use into this informative volume.Where is Volume 2?

Great book but I have to be honest
Great book but I have to be honest, it would be way better if the pictures of plants were in color.

A great book any herbalist wanting to bridge between East and ...
A well categorized herbal. The herbs are defined also in Traditional Chinese medicine terms, many common Western herbs and herbs common in New Zealand are included. A great book any herbalist wanting to bridge between East and West.
