Clear Leveling Gel by GOLDEN, 32 fl. oz. Jar, Professional Acrylic Gel Medium, Transparent

I use this as glue on my "built" mixed media canvasses. I also use it as a clear coat over all my paintings (acrylic). It's a consistantly stable, reliable product.

As with all coatings this one is no different and one needs some practice in order to "master" it.If your result is a bad result it is not the medium but most certainly lack of practice.It will dry clear. The instructions state not to pour thicker than 1/16 of an inch. If it happens to go on thicker it will crack while drying, and possibly stay milky. If either one of those problems happen those areas can be carefully wet-sanded (by hand! not a machine like a palm sander it will destroy the surface) with 320, 400 grit sandpaper - it is a long process but will bring those areas back down enough to be re-poured. Cracks can simply be re-poured but if they are too deep building up those cracks to an over all even surface can be tricky and one might end up using way more material than necessary. Therefore I'd recommend wet sanding. The scratches from the sand paper will completely disappear once a new layer is poured.The pics above: the first image shows the application of the medium using a concrete trowel across the entire surface at once. Despite leveling out the painting the medium started pooling at the lower left cracking badly. Picture 2: Coats were applied in 2 steps the top half first then the second half after the top had dried - using the concrete trowel. The mediums self leveling properties are okay but wherever the application is thin it struggles to level out - those areas were then wet sanded smooth in picture 3. It is a great product to create a top coat or an inter-coat that needs to even out a damaged surface to create a new smooth surface like in my case. It of course can be used as regular paint medium to stretch paint and make it more translucent. It can be painted over to create layer effects as well. Then re-coated with any type of acrylics top coat.

Performs exactly as described. A good buy for the money.

So far it has really enhanced my painting journey with acrylics. There are so many different mediums available for painting that’s it’s really down to artist preference, so best advice is to try as many as you can and decide for yourself. Golden is a good brand with lots of options.

Received my Golden clear leveling gel in a timely matter. This is an excellent quality product that I will be using to hide any tools marks, brush stokes, scratches on my acrylic painting. Takes about 24 hours to dry, apply thin to avoid any bubbles. You can add gesso on the side of your canvas/panel (remove all drips on the side of the substrate to avoid dripping looks unless this is what you are going for) once completely dried. I would recommend to add a varnish once your project is done.

Bei der Lieferung war ein Teil des Gels in der gesamten Verpackung ausgelaufen, das war natürlich eine sehr unschöne Überraschung. Außerdem ist der so grandios angepriesene Self-leveling Effekt leider nicht so bemerkbar wie erwünscht. Das war natürlich eine Enttäuschung und dafür ist das Produkt auch einfach zu teuer gewesen.

Fantastic self-levelling product (to an extent - you still have to level it out) for my acrylic paintings - note, I think it says you can mix with water, but I would say definitely do NOT do that
